Hi Joanne, how are you? Good thanks. Long-time listener. Here’s what I think.
It’s funny to me that we see the difference between a ‘house’ and a ‘home’ – a house is an impersonal place, a dwelling, and a home is where you live as yourself – but we make the opposite distinction between ‘housework’ and ‘homework’. Housework is what I do to turn my place from a house into a home, and the homework I used to have to do was impersonal, an intrusion from school into my home.
Does that make sense? Maybe I’m rambling. Anyway, housework and homework are both quite annoying, aren’t they!
Yes, a lot of my friends think about crime. They listen to those true-crime podcasts on the ABC. Not just the ABC…practically every station. When I use Spotify, every second ad is for a true-crime podcast.
What’s up with that?
They’re interesting, sure, but it’s weird, isn’t it, how every woman I know under the sun seems to be addicted to these things?
I asked my husband about it once and he had no idea. Typical of him, yes! But all my girlfriends knew about it, all the other mothers. They say:
“Oh, we don’t play them in the car. Don’t want the kids to hear that stuff…Yeah, just when I’m doing chores.”
So you want to hear about men cutting people up when you’re doing housework.
Or homework.
Either way.
Is this related to why all the young women on Facebook are choosing bears all of a sudden?
It’s certainly troublesome. I’m glad I’m out of the dating game.
Oh yes it seems like a complete nightmare. Those apps, you know – they’re purposely not helpful. After all, they get more money when more people are on them, so of course the incentive isn’t to help people find stability. It’s to keep them looking.
Oh – I thought you were going to cut to someone else! Okay.
Yes. Well we’ve not been married for long. But I knew him for years. You know, that’s really the only…you can’t just meet some total stranger from the Internet, right? Who knows who they really are? Yes, it gets back to the bear thing, right, right. You can’t do your homework.
Ah – there’s another use! Homework, as in…independent research. So it’s not always imposed on you. Sometimes, it’s something you do to be able to welcome a stranger. Homework, housework, self-work…all these things, in the end, don’t they all come down to that?
Self-work? Yeah, I mean, like, yoga, independent reflection, reading…taking time out. It’s good to not be connected all the time. Like I said, this is almost the only radio I listen to. Oh, I didn’t say that? Well. There you go. Sometimes the classical station, too…
Hmm. To welcome a stranger…I guess I mean, into your heart. You need a clean house or they’ll run away! And you don’t want to be talked about in a true-crime podcast, right!
